Dentures

A denture is a removable appliance for the replacement of missing teeth and adjacent tissues. They are made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. Complete dentures replace all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position or shifting.

It can usually take up to a month to construct a set of dentures, sometimes more in difficult cases. You must be prepared for a number of visits to the dentist.

The first 2 appointments are usually to take impressions of your mouth. Following this the dentist must then record how your jaws relate to each other.

The next stage once all this information is gathered is to try the teeth in. They are set up in wax to allow for errors to be easily corrected. If this "try in" is satisfactory the denture may be finished.
