Tooth Crowns
A crown or "cap" is used when a tooth has which been broken, or may be weakened by decay a very large filling or following root canal therapy (RCT).

The tooth is prepared for the crown by the dentist and the final crown is made by a laboratory. A temporary crown may be fitted in the interim. these are usually weaker and a poorer fit. The crown then fits over the tooth.
Crowns may be metal, porcelain, ceramic or porcelain bonded to metal.
